Are you trying to make buyers fall in love with your home the very moment they drive up to it? You should be, and here are the four main things I tell my clients that they should be doing to boost their home’s first impression and fetch top dollar on the market:
1. Power-wash the exterior. If you’re like most homeowners, cleaning the whole outside of your home isn’t part of your regular maintenance routine, but it’s a fairly simple and worthwhile task. When several seasons’ worth of dirt, grime, and debris is cleared away, you’ll be amazed at how brightly your home shines.
2. Landscaping. Make sure your grass is mowed (if applicable), any weeds are pulled, and that there’s no trash lying around in the yard. Plant some fresh flowers if it’s seasonally appropriate, and trim your shrubs to have your lawn looking immaculate.
“You’d be surprised by how many people comment on a cute welcome mat!”
3. Paint the front door. Nothing says “welcome home” like a fresh coat of paint. Some colors that we recommend include burgundy, royal blue (any sort of rich red or deep blue, really), or even a light green color depending on the outside aesthetic of your home and what your HOA rules allow.
4. A brand-new welcome mat. There are tons of cute options available online at sites like Amazon or Wayfair, but Target and Walmart are also good places for outdoor accessories. Don’t just power-wash the old mat; buyers will respond well to simple touches that look like they could belong in a new model home. You’d be surprised by how many people comment on a cute welcome mat!
Hopefully, you’ll be able to improve your home’s curb appeal using these four quick tips, regardless of whether or not you’re looking to sell soon—pulling up to a pretty, well-polished home every day is soothing to the soul!
